When did you first start CrossFitting?: Feb 2014

What is your favorite movement? Favorite workout? Deadlifts and squats. I like the Hatch squat cycle we’re doing, and specific workout favorites have been Filthy Fifty, the one where we lifted 15,000 pounds overhead with a partner, and deck of cards.

What is your least favorite movement? Least favorite workout? Overhead squats and snatching.

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I played lacrosse through high school and college, and also competed in cross country mountain bike races throughout high school.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Do you remember your first WOD? How did it go? I got in tglxfit2o CrossFit after my girlfriend signed up. My first WOD was rough! It involved box jumping and 100M sprints and I was really out of shape. I couldn’t make it 50M without walking a few steps. I was on my last round long after everyone finished. Jack was nice enough to run the last 100M with me.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit?  I’m easily in the best shape of my life. I’ve lost 45 pounds, grown a beard, and often run 5K’s during my lunch break.

What impact has CrossFit had on your life? I physically feel great. Instead of watching a movie with my daughter, we do the sally squat challenge or a pull up contest (which she sometimes wins). My diet is also significantly healthier than before.

What is your favorite Bull City CrossFit moment? During the Firestarter competition we had an event of 3 rep touch-and-go cleans. I failed my third rep at my heaviest weight. On my second attempt, I got to the third rep and everyone from the gym was cheering loudly. I caught the clean and got a 10lb PR for the movement, along with a couple fist bumps.

What is your advice for people just getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit? Absolutely try it. You can scale any workout and participate at a level that works for you. You’ll get better, stronger, faster, and before you know it you’ll be writing one of these!

What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I like playing guitar, cooking delicious food and traveling with my girlfriend, and spending time with my daughter.
